Appreciations Exercise for Couples

Equipment: two pens, two sheets of paper, a coin to toss Instructions:

Each member of the couple takes a pen and paper and writes down a list of everything they appreciate about their partner as quicky as possible. Do this privately for about 5 minutes or less. Don't share your list yet. Examples might be: "You are a great cook," "you have a good sense of humor", "I appreciate it when you put your arm around me when I am upset", " I love your smile"

Flip the coin to see who goes first. That person read their list out loud to their partner who listens without interrupting. Then without any discussion the second person reads their list. After both have finished, just sit for a moment and notice your feelings. This exercise is worth doing at least once a month.
