GETTING STARTED

When you call or email me, we will set a time to speak on the phone for a free 15-minute consultation. If you are looking for couples counseling it is often best that I speak with both partners on the phone before the first session. You can take this opportunity to ask me any questions you may have and I will ask you a few questions. If we agree that my services seem to be a good fit I will set up an appointment for you.


I will start out our first session by explaining the process of counseling and talking about confidentiality. We will have a chance to get to know each other. For individuals I will ask you to share the basics of the problem you are coming in for. For couples I will ask you each to tell me your own version of the problem and what solutions you have already tried. I will also ask you to let me know what you hope to accomplish in therapy. At the end of the session I will suggest you go home and think about the experience and if you decide my services are not a good fit call me and I will provide you with a referral to another therapist.


For teens, in the first session we will talk about confidentiality and safety issues and the degree to which you want your parents involved. I want this to be a safe and trusting environment for you to explore your feelings and needs.


You and I will be developing a customized plan for your treatment and ideas for how to best use the sessions. Know that I am happy to start off sessions with any current concerns you may bring in. I will design your care to use tools and interventions that fit your particular situation and needs.
